Rules for Granting Scholarships at NCBR in 2026

1. Scholarships for Publications

Eligible Study Programmes

Student must be enrolled in:

Doctoral programmes:

  • Biomolecular Chemistry and Bioinformatics
  • Experimental Plant Biology (only Ph.D. students under NCBR supervisors)
  • Genomics and Proteomics
  • Life Sciences

Master’s programmes:

  • Bioinformatics
  • Biochemistry - specialization Bioinformatics
  • Biomolecular Chemistry
  • Genomics and Proteomics

Publication Requirements

Eligible outputs:

  • Full research articles
  • Review articles
  • Book chapters
  • Output type Jimp or D
  • Inserted into IS MUNI

Publication must:

  • be published between 1st January 2026 – 30th November 2026, OR
  • be published in 2025 after the previous scholarship deadline, OR
  • be accepted for publication before 30th November 2026
  • Not have received any previous scholarship
  • Include the student’s NCBR affiliation

Specification of NCBR affiliation

Affiliation is the name and address of institutions specified with the author’s name in the list of publication authors. NCBR affiliation should be specified as follows:

National Centre for Biomolecular Research, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, Kamenice 5, 625 00 Brno, Czech Republic

The affiliation can be appropriately modified to correspond to the format of specific journal affiliations, e.g., it is possible to avoid a street name and/or postal code. If a student specifies another affiliation belonging to MU (e.g., CEITEC MU, another department of Faculty of Science, etc.) or to other institutions (Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, etc.) together with the NCBR affiliation, it does not affect the amount of scholarship.

Scholarships are paid throughout the year.

Ph.D. Student Limitation

  • Student must be maximum in the 5th year of Ph.D. study
  • Eligibility is assessed on the date of article acceptance
  • Students in higher years are not eligible

Important for Graduating Students

Scholarship can only be paid if the student:

  • Is officially enrolled at MU
  • Has not completed studies at the time of payment

If planning to defend in 2026:

  • Apply for urgent payment
  • Submit the request at least 3 weeks before Ph.D. defence

The scholarship for publications is granted based on the application sent to the email of NCBR department secretary Veronika Papoušková (papouskova@ncbr.muni.cz).

2. Scholarships for regular completion of Doctoral study

Eligible Study Programmes

Student must be enrolled in:

CZK 25,000 (one-time payment)

Eligible Doctoral programmes:

  • Biomolecular Chemistry and Bioinformatics
  • Experimental Plant Biology (only Ph.D. students under NCBR supervisors)
  • Genomics and Proteomics
  • Life Sciences

Conditions:

  • Successful defence of Ph.D. thesis
  • Within standard study duration + 1 year
  • Maximum: 10 semesters (specifically 1.825 days)

Payment

  • Awarded automatically in 2026
  • Paid before the Ph.D. defence date

Final provisions

In accordance with Art. 13 of the Scholarship Rules of Masaryk University, scholarships may be reduced or withdrawn due to non-fulfilment of duties specified above.
