Studying Biomolecular Structures, Interactions, and Molecular Mechanisms by NMR
Abstract:
Understanding biomolecular structures and their interactions is essential for elucidating the mechanisms underlying biological processes. Advanced nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques provide a powerful toolkit to study these molecules at atomic resolution in solution. In this lecture, I will present recent developments in NMR methodology and how they are applied to investigate protein, nucleic acid, and protein–ligand complexes. Emphasis will be placed on approaches that reveal dynamic processes, transient interactions, and conformational changes critical for biomolecular function. Examples from my research will illustrate how NMR contributes to understanding enzymatic mechanisms, allosteric regulation, and molecular recognition. The lecture will also highlight strategies for combining NMR with complementary biophysical and computational methods to achieve a comprehensive view of biomolecular systems. Overall, this talk will demonstrate the versatility of NMR in studying the structure, dynamics, and interactions of complex biomolecules.
