Vladimír Sklenář Scholarship
Supporting talented Ph.D. candidates who use NMR in their research
An opportunity to obtain 100,000 CZK for personal and career development.
To honor the memory of Prof. Vladimír Sklenář, an internationally renowned scientist and an important organizer of scientific activities in the Czech Republic, the Vladimír Sklenář Scholarship is awarded. The scholarship is intended for students of doctoral studies at universities in the Czech and Slovak Republics working with NMR spectroscopy and can be used to cover the costs related to their studies. The intention is to improve the conditions for the awardee’s personal and career development.
The scholarship in the amount of CZK 100,000, which may be taxable according to the practice of the institution and/or the tax regulations of the beneficiary's country, is sponsored by Měřicí technika Morava. The scholarship will be awarded to one person per year.

Terms and Conditions for Applicants
- Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time or combined doctoral student at a university in the Czech Republic or the Slovak Republic at the time of the announcement of the results and must be under 30 years of age at the application deadline. Should the selected applicant leave his/her doctoral study before the scholarship is awarded, the scholarship will be awarded to the next highest ranked student.
- The nationality of the applicant does not play a role.
- Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy must be a part of the dissertation topic.
- An applicant may receive the Vladimír Sklenář Scholarship only once
- The application for the scholarship can be submitted in Czech, Slovak or English
- The awarded student will report the use of scholarship to the committee within one year of receiving the scholarship
Application Requirements and Submission Guidelines
The entry form must include
- Cover letter containing affiliation, mailing address and the purpose for which the applicant plans to use the scholarship (max. one A4 page).
- CV of the applicant (max. two A4 pages) which includes the birth date.
- Annexes proving previous achievements of the applicant (published works including the thesis, participation in conferences, internships and workshops, performance during the master's studies and state final exams, awards received, etc.).
- The dissertation assignment, the name of the supervisor and the department where the work is carried out.
- A letter of recommendation from the dissertation supervisor or head of department.
- The results achieved so far in the dissertation and plans for the next period, in no more than two A4 pages.
- The application containing the above sections must be sent to email VSscholarship@ceitec.muni.cz before the deadline.
Evaluation Process and Selection Committee
Rating
- The Evaluation Committee shall have 5 members. The chairman of the evaluation committee is a representative of CEITEC MU, other members are representatives of three other universities, at least one of them from Slovakia, and a representative of the company Měřicí technika Morava. The members of the committee are obliged to treat all the applicants’ data confidentially in accordance with the GDPR.
- In determining the ranking, the committee will take into account in particular the following evaluation criteria: the quality of the candidate’s previous study and scientific results, the agreement of the dissertation topic with the focus of the scholarship, the progress made so far on the dissertation project, and whether the planned use of the scholarship is appropriate given the candidate's and project's specific conditions.
- The members of the evaluation committee will evaluate the applications of each candidate by assigning points on a scale of 0-10 (more points means a better score).
- In the case of a conflict of interest (e.g., former or current supervisor, co-author, etc.), a member of the evaluation committee will not evaluate the applicant. Instead of his/her evaluation, the applicant will receive the average of the scores awarded by the other committee members.
- The committee will award the scholarship to the applicant based on the sum of the points received from all committee members. In the event of a tie between the first two applicants, each member of the committee will give a preferential vote to one of these applicants and the scholarship will be awarded to the applicant with the higher number of preferential votes.
- The results of the selection procedure will be announced on the website https://vsscholarship.ceitec.cz/results and to the successful candidate by email no later than 31st March 2026.
- The award ceremony will take place at the annual Central European NMR Meeting (NMR Valtice, https://nmrvaltice.ncbr.muni.cz/). The awardee will be invited to give a 20-minute lecture as a part of the conference program.

Results
The scholarship in 2025 was awarded to Vladimíra Zlínská, a doctoral student in the Genomics and Proteomics programme at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University. Vladimíra plans to use the scholarship for a longer research stay focused on 2D NMR structural analysis of nucleic acids, where she will gain hands-on experience and deepen her expertise. She also intends to attend specialized courses and international conferences, such as EUROMAR and the FEBS Congress, to further expand her knowledge and professional network.
