State Doctoral Examination (SDE)
- recommended to be taken in the 3rd year
- it is a public exam, but not advertised through official channels (emails, invitations)
- the examination committee has 5 members, the student, in consultation with the supervisor, proposes examination topics from three areas (Genomics, Proteomics, Methods)

Application procedure: úřadovna> create a file -> select application for the state doctoral examination -> fill in the contact address, supervisor, dissertation topic and upload a statement of studies -> save.

Thesis defence
- is public, usually in English
- 2 reviewers without conflict of interest (co-authors of publications etc.) outside Masaryk University
- standard format is not strictly defined, it is possible to use a template, full length or annotated list of publications depending on the number of outputs from student enrolment to defence
- minimum criterion is at least 1 first-author publication

the dissertation is submitted only electronically via IS MU. Preferred formats are PDF, RTF or DOC (MS Word), follow the template so you never foget any of the compulsory parts!

If your dissertation contains unpublished research or other data that cannot be published, submit a request to hide this part of your dissertation.
Please, upload two versions of the thesis to the archive - one complete version that will be hidden in its entirety, and one that does not contain unpublished parts (name it) and will be made public. Parts of the dissertation can be hidden for a maximum of 3 years.

Attention! The application form must also include: a list of previously published works, an abstract of the dissertation (CZ and ENG), a professional CV (with signature and date) and a list of marks !! We recommend to prepare all files in advance!
If you have a supervisor's opinion on your dissertation, please include it in the attachments as well.
Conditions for evaluating a student as "summa cum laude" - according to the new Study and Examination Regulations, the classification changes to "pass" or "fail," and outstanding students may be awarded "summa cum laude." The possibility of a "summa cum laude" may be proposed by the supervisor, a member of the TAC or the Departmental Board to the guarantor at the time of the student's application for defense (no later than one week before the defense). The student must have fulfilled all study requirements. The student must achieve results that demonstrably and significantly exceed the standard requirements for proper completion of studies and must defend their thesis within 12 semesters of study. During the defense, the student must demonstrate an excellent understanding of the subject matter, knowledge of the theoretical foundations, and the ability to critically discuss the results and context of the dissertation. The examination committee will decide on the award of the "summa cum laude" grade based on the submitted proposal and the evaluation of the defenses.
