The prize for excellent results was awarded to PhD students and their supervisors

Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies Šárka Pospíšilová awarded the prize for excellent results in doctoral studies at MU to 33 graduates and their supervisors. PhD students from our programmes Abigail Cuyacot Franczyk (Life Sciences), Ludmila Moráňová (Genomics and Proteomics) and Hana Kuchaříková (Genomics and Proteomics) are among the awardees. Congratulations!

The MUNI Scientist award was received by scientists across MU disciplines

The Grant Agency of Masaryk University (GA MU) organized the annual conference on Wednesday, November 30, in the premises of the Augustinian Abbey at Mendel Square in Brno. MUNI Scientist awards were presented for the third time and several NCBR scientists succeeded. Congratulations to prof. Radek Marek, prof. Zbyněk Zdráhal, Dr. Lumír Krejčí, Dr. David Sehnal, and Dr. Mário Špírek.

Darja Klementová won the national ‘České hlavičky’ (Little Czech Mind) award

Darja Klementová, who comes from an artistic family, has also been interested in nature and the human body since she was a child. For her work under the supervision of Marek Šebesta, which has been focused on the role of kinases from the CK1 family in the Wnt/β-catenin cell signalling pathway, and the potential application of these findings in the treatment of leukaemia, she won the national ‘České hlavičky’ (Little Czech Mind) award.

How Dicer Works: RNA Scissors in Mammals

This discovery offers a new way of defence against RNA viruses in humans. David Zapletal, Karel Kubíček, and Richard Štefl from NCBR and CEITEC Masaryk University (MU) and Petr Svoboda from the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IMG CAS) and their colleagues have revealed the unique mechanism of action of mammalian Dicer. The research results were published on 3 November 2022 in the prestigious scientific journal Molecular Cell.
