The National Centre for Biomolecular Research (NCBR) is a department at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University in Brno. Our research centre is located in the modern premises of the University Campus Bohunice, with the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) and the Faculty of Medicine. This unique synergy and state-of-the-art equipment allows us to conduct cutting-edge research in the fields of bio-omics and structural biology. Our research integrates experimental techniques with computer simulations and bioinformatic analyses. At the Centre, we support talented students at all levels of study (undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral), including mentoring secondary school students in Students` Professional Activity (SPA) projects.

Improving end-of-trip cycling facilities on the University Campus at Bohunice

If you use a bike or scooter for transport to the University campus, you can fill the questionnaire on Improving end-of-trip cycling facilities. Results will help us to understand the current state of bike parking and other end-of-trip cycling facilities on the Bohunice campus. Data from this questionnaire will feed into a design proposal for improving cycling facilities on campus. In collaboration with the Management of the University Campus at Bohunice, we aim to deliver these improvements by the end of 2024.

Dominik Hrebik received the 2022 PhD Thesis Award from the Czech Society for Structural Biology

Dominik Hrebik, successful alumni of DSP Biomolecular chemistry and bioinformatics, received the 2022 PhD Thesis Award in Structural Biology from the Czech Society for Structural Biology for his dissertation thesis "Characterization of viral cell entry in vivo and ex vivo" under the supervision of Pavel Plevka at CEITEC MU. Congratulations!

MUNI Mendel Doctorandus welcomes the new semester with new students and a brand-new logo

The MUNI Mendel Doctorandus programme for talented PhD students opened another admission procedure in January 2023. A total of 14 students across the faculties of the Bohunice Campus and CEITEC applied, and members of the MMD Committee reviewed their applications. After the evaluation, all applied students were admitted to the programme. There are, therefore, now a total of 57 students who are members of the MMD family and are enjoying support in their acquisition of interdisciplinary education and soft skills training.

Three scientists including Prof. Jiří Fajkus (NCBR & CEITEC MU) and one student of Masaryk University were among this year’s laureates of the Brno City Award for 2022. These awards are bestowed upon notable personalities whose activities are primarily taking place in Brno.

PhD Thesis competition on Structural Biology topics

Czech Society for Structural Biology opens the competition on the best PhD thesis in the field of structural biology. The goal of the competition is to motivate young scientists to work in the field, to support a high level of research and study at Czech and Slovak universities in this field, and to contribute to the involvement of young scientists in the community of structural biologists and related fields.

Congratulations to our two PhD students Alica Laníková (Biomolecular Chemistry and Bioinformatics) and Jan Šmeringai (Genomics and Proteomics), who succeeded in the PhD Talent competition and won an additional scholarship funded by JCMM.

Dominik Hrebik was awarded by the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports

The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic Vladimir Balas awarded outstanding personalities from academia and research in five categories. Among the awardees was also Dominik Hrebík, recent alumni of PhD programme Biomolecular chemistry and Bioinformatics, who received the award for outstanding students and graduates and their spectacular achievements in the year 2022.
