The National Centre for Biomolecular Research (NCBR) is a department at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University in Brno. Our research centre is located in the modern premises of the University Campus Bohunice, with the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) and the Faculty of Medicine. This unique synergy and state-of-the-art equipment allows us to conduct cutting-edge research in the fields of bio-omics and structural biology. Our research integrates experimental techniques with computer simulations and bioinformatic analyses. At the Centre, we support talented students at all levels of study (undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral), including mentoring secondary school students in Students` Professional Activity (SPA) projects.

Atomic Charge Calculator III, developed by the Structural Bioinformatics research group, was published in the NAR Web Server Issue 2026 and featured on the issue cover.

Dean’s Awards 2026

Dean Luděk Blaha ceremoniously presented the Dean’s Awards 2026. Five NCBR laureates received awards: Martin Kopecký (Bioinformatics) in the category of Best Student in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree Programme, Dr. Aneta Kozeleková (DSP Life Sciences) and Dr. Ondřej Helia (DSP Genomics and proteomics) in the category Best Student in a Doctoral Degree Programme. We congratulate all the award winners and thank them for their efforts, which contribute greatly to the reputation of our department.

Fourteen experts from Masaryk University appointed professors. Seven of them are from our faculty

Appointment decrees were presented to 91 new professors and associate professors by the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, on 1 June in the Great Hall of the Karolinum.
