Petra Procházková Schrumpfová has habilitated in the field of Genomics and Proteomics. Her research focuses on plant telomeres. In her habilitation thesis, she focused on the identification, characterization and functional analysis of different types of plant telomere binding proteins, most of which are not strictly telomeric functions, but are also involved in the regulation of gene expression. Her work also provided new information regarding telomere repeat-binding proteins that have similar binding affinities to typical plant and human telomere motifs, which could facilitate adaptation to the alteration of divergent telomere motifs.

Intensive Summer School: Multiscale Modelling Methods

The National Centre for Biomolecular Research, in collaboration with CEITEC and the Centre for International Cooperation, organized the second year of the intensive two-week summer school, focusing on edge computer simulation techniques at various scales from atomic to coarse-grained simulations covering topics from supramolecular chemistry towards structural biology. The course was attended by 15 students, twelve from abroad and three selected from Masaryk University.

Dean’s Awards 2024

Dean Tomáš Kašparovský has presented awards to the best students of the MU Faculty of Science on Thursday, June 13, 2024. This year’s Dean’s Awards were presented to a total of ten laureates in the Best Student category in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme, and to eleven promising scientists in the Best Student category of the Doctoral study programme. Moreover, the award was also presented to three teams of fourteen outstanding students of the pregraduate and postgraduate programmes. Congratulations mainly to our successful students Bc. Július Zemaník (BMCH Biomolecular chemistry) and Mgr. Alžbeta Kusová (DSP Genomics and proteomis). Short interviews about their study and research focus coming soon!

CSSB competition: the best PhD thesis in the field of structural biology 2023

The Council of the Czech Society for Structural Biology has resolved to extend the support for young researchers in the field of structural biology in the form of a Competition for the best doctoral thesis (for obtaining a PhD degree or equivalent). The goal of the competition is to motivate young scientists to work in the field, to support a high level of research and study at Czech and Slovak universities in this field, and to contribute to the involvement of young scientists in the community of structural biologists and related fields.

Improving end-of-trip cycling facilities on the University Campus at Bohunice

If you use a bike or scooter for transport to the University campus, you can fill the questionnaire on Improving end-of-trip cycling facilities. Results will help us to understand the current state of bike parking and other end-of-trip cycling facilities on the Bohunice campus. Data from this questionnaire will feed into a design proposal for improving cycling facilities on campus. In collaboration with the Management of the University Campus at Bohunice, we aim to deliver these improvements by the end of 2024.
